Julie Phillips, as Assistant Chief Legal Counsel for the Ohio Department of Agriculture, provides legal counsel and advice for the Ohio Department of Agriculture while assisting government in being small business friendly. Julie Phillips’ passion for small business and agriculture started when she was 5 years old, cleaning off tables and washing dishes in the back of her parents’ Italian restaurant, eventually working her way up through the ranks to management. Valuing fresh food in the restaurant business, she also spent many years helping on the family farm growing fresh produce and tending livestock. Recognizing the many difficulties small business owners and farmers faced, especially with the many nuances of the law, Julie Phillips became an attorney to assist small businesses, including farms, to become successful. Julie Phillips counsels the ODA through transactions and issues with the confidence and expertise clients seek. With extensive real-world experience of issues small businesses and farmers face, she knows how to bring many time- and money-saving solutions to business and agricultural problems.

Julie Phillips gained significant experience with other law firms as a former partner and within the United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate General. When not practicing law, Julie Phillips is an avid pianist, rides motorcycles, and supports her country as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard.
