Daniel is an attorney at Elliott & Davis. Daniel's practice centers on trademark law, corporate law, nonprofit law, estate planning, and civil litigation. In particular, Daniel is capable of handling clients needs involving federal and state trademark registrations; incorporations and formation of various other business entities; applications for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); drafting wills, trusts, and health-care powers of attorney documents; and effective management of various aspects of civil litigation.

Before coming to Elliott & Davis, Daniel interned with Lafkas Patent, LLC in Cincinnati, where he focused on trademark registration practice. He has also worked as a research fellow at a public policy think-tank and in the permissions department of the University of Pittsburgh Press, an academic publishing company.

Daniel is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Pittsburgh Journal of Technology Law & Policy and was selected to have his Student Note published by the Journal.

Daniel studied public relations journalism at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University and has worked as an intern with a Cincinnati newspaper and as a radio program host on Ohio University's National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate.

Ms. Kovan has a decade of "big firm" litigation experience. Now she offers that level of expertise to her clients at a more cost effective rate. Ms. Kovan’s litigation experience includes representing companies and individuals in state and federal court actions throughout the United States as well as securities matters pending before the National Association of Securities Dealers, New York Stock Exchange (collectively now known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA“)) and the United States Securities Commission (“SEC”). Ms. Kovan has handled numerous securities related matters, including customer disputes, enforcement actions, SEC investigations and insider trading investigations/actions. Ms. Kovan has also represented clients in federal and state litigation and appeals.

Additionally, Ms. Kovan has represented clients in commercial and real estate disputes. Ms. Kovan has a long track record of successfully representing commercial and individual taxpayers in real estate tax assessment appeals throughout Pennsylvania. She has secured significant property tax savings for her clients, including representing a national telecommunications provider in state-wide tax appeals and a major international airport in its tax exemption appeals.

Ms. Kovan brings with her a unique understanding of business, as prior to law school, Ms. Kovan worked in the area of international trade finance in Vienna, Austria. In that capacity, she assisted large and small companies in the financing of import/export transactions (including letters of credit) throughout the world. She is fluent in German and proficient in French.

Ms. Kovan received her B.A. from Kenyon College. She is a magna cum laude, graduate of the Villanova University School of Law

Dawn Richards graduated with a BS in Accounting in 1991, a Masters in Business Administration in 1995 and a Juris Doctor in 2008. Her background includes sixteen years of experience in business and operations, with an emphasis on hospitals, physician practices, health care related entities, ancillary services, and health maintenance organizations. Her business acumen includes: compliance programs, financial statements, policies and procedures, contracting, negotiations, business restructuring, taxation and financial operations. She is an active member of the community. Her current clients include not-for profit organizations, small trucking and transporations companies, physician practices, and ancillary services companies. She also practices in the area of elder law, including estates, wills, medicaid appeals and guardianships.
