Chad spent six years as a software engineer for IBM and several startups developing chip testing software, advanced Linux firewalls and internet traffic routing technologies prior to attending law school. Chad has both in-house and law firm experience having served as an associate for four years in the IP Licensing/Technology Transaction Group of Fenwick & West LLP in San Francisco and more recently as Senior Licensing Counsel for Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco.

Chad has a special interest in copyright law and open-source issues and has authored or co-authored articles on topics such as digital rights management, website immunity under the DMCA safe harbors and the CDA Section 230, and new media licensing in The Cyberspace Lawyer, The Privacy & Data Protection Legal Reporter and the Daily Journal.

David J. Tsai is an associate in Perkins Coie's San Francisco office and a member of the Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Tsai's practice focuses on trade secret and patent litigation, with an emphasis on pharmaceuticals (Hatch-Waxman Act/ANDA), biotechnologies, the Internet, software, semiconductors, and medical devices. His legal experience also includes litigating in the areas of copyrights and trademarks, preparing and prosecuting U.S. electrical engineering patent applications, drafting patentability, freedom-to-operate and non-infringement opinions, as well as dealing with patent interference in the area of biotechnology. Mr. Tsai has written on Hatch-Waxman related issues and Internet software applications.

During law school, Mr. Tsai served as an extern to the Honorable Howard R. Lloyd of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and a law clerk for the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley (AIDS Legal Services).

Prior to his legal career, Mr. Tsai worked in product management at Internet/software startups Zaplet, Inc., and TimeDance.com funded by Kleiner Perkins and the Mayfield Fund, respectively. He focused on developing platforms for collaborative communications.

Mr. Tsai also previously led the U.S. product management team for Corbett's Rotor-Gene (real-time PCR) product line. In addition, he has authored numerous articles for scientific publications (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, The Journal of Comparative Neurology, Experimental Neurology, and Society of Neuroscience Abstracts) related to his undergraduate honors thesis and graduate research at Harvard Medical School and Stanford on stem cell and viral gene therapy tools for the treatment of
neurological diseases and cancer.

Mr. Tsai currently serves on the Board of Directors of the BASF and SVIPLA and was named Barrister of the Year by the Santa Clara County Bar Association in 2010 and a "Rising Star" in IP litigation by Super Lawyers in 2009 and 2010.

Mr. Tsai is committed to serving pro bono clients on behalf of the firm. He is the recipient of the Minority Bar Coalition's Rising Star Award and the ABA Section of Litigation's Outstanding Subcommittee Chair Award.

Terrance J. Evans is a partner in the Trial Practice Group of Duane Morris in San Francisco. He concentrates his practice in representing the financial services industry, which includes international, national and community banks; loan service companies; and insurance companies. During his career, Mr. Evans has both recovered and saved clients of the firm tens of millions of dollars in settlements, judgments and extrajudicial procedures.

With respect to the insurance industry, Mr. Evans concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation and policy interpretation and analysis. He has represented commercial primary, excess and umbrella insurers in a wide range of multimillion-dollar cases, including declaratory relief, bad faith, rescission, subrogation, indemnity, additional insurance, interpleader and reformation actions. Mr. Evans has served as national coordinating counsel and monitoring counsel for insurance companies evaluating multi-jurisdictional claims where the exposure was estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mr. Evans has extensively advised commercial insurers and policy holders regarding primary, excess and additional insurance obligations in jurisdictions around the United States. His experience includes analyzing and advising clients regarding claims related to the construction industry, automobile industry, homeowners associations, real estate agents, accountants, enrolled agents, attorneys, ministers, international religious organizations, intellectual property, trademarks, mobile home parks, international imports and exports, interstate commerce, livestock, retail chains, wineries, cemeteries and other commercial establishments. He has also advised insurers regarding issues related to national security and the U.S. military.

In relation to the banking industry, Mr. Evans has represented international, national and community banks and loan service companies in complex commercial litigation and various secured transactions, including commercial and residential nonjudicial foreclosures; unified foreclosures; judicial foreclosures; creditor's rights issues, which includes obtaining relief from stay in various bankruptcy courts; mechanics' lien lawsuits; stop notice claims; abatement issues; priority contests; RESPA claims; forbearance agreements; municipality disputes; transfer tax disputes; property tax disputes; short sales; loan purchase and sale agreements; predatory lending claims; discriminatory lending claims; Fair Debt Collection Practices Act claims; and many other issues.

Mr. Evans has negotiated settlements in dozens of multimillion-dollar cases, litigated in more than ten states, and has participated in more than 100 mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution for matters in both federal and state courts. Mr. Evans has also successfully represented clients in appellate matters, including matters before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Evans has spoken at insurance coverage seminars, business development workshops, and diversity conferences around the country. Additionally, he has been very involved in the firm's pro bono efforts.

Mr. Evans has been recognized both locally and nationally for his professional accomplishments. In 2010 and 2008, Mr. Evans was honored by the American Business Trial Lawyers of Northern California for his dedication and professionalism.
