Corporate/business attorney with over 15 years business experience both as a business manager and in-house attorney before moving to private practice. My primary focus is on technology, intellectual property, renewable energy and entertainment law.

Patrick started Richards Patent Law after spending over eight years with McDermott Will & Emery LLP, a large general practice firm in Chicago where he concentrated his practice on patent prosecution, counseling, opinion work and litigation.

As a partner at McDermott, Patrick managed international patent portfolios for several major corporations, as well as a number of small and medium sized businesses. Utilizing his strong technical background, Patrick has experience in all phases of utility, design and PCT patent prosecution in many technical fields, including the areas of mechanical, electrical, computer systems, chemical and financial products technologies.

In addition to his extensive patent prosecution experience, Patrick has counseled numerous clients on matters concerning: patent portfolio acquisition and management; patent portfolio licenses, sales and purchases; joint development agreements; freedom to practice opinions; patentability opinions; non-infringement opinions; and employment and non-compete agreements.

Patrick earned a bachelors of science in civil engineering, with honors. He is admitted to practice before the courts of Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and is registered to practice for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Scott A. Andresen is the founder of Andresen & Associates P.C., a Chicago-based law firm that focuses its offerings in the areas of sports law, entertainment and the arts, intellectual property and a wide array of legal and non-legal services and consultation to business and corporate clients ranging from small entrepreneurs to multi-million dollar corporations. Scott earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, his JD at the Valparaiso University School of Law, and his MBA from the University of Phoenix. Scott has previously studied at Cambridge University in England under U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, worked for the legal department of the Oakland Raiders, and served as Legal Assistant to the Executive Director of the Illinois High School Association. Scott also teaches Sports Law I and Labor Relations for the Arts at Columbia College in Chicago; volunteers with several non-profit organizations, including the Lawyers for the Creative Arts and Chicago 2016; and lectures to various attorney and student groups and associations.
