KIRK NYSTROM, Attorney


Kirk Nystrom has practiced law in Topeka for about 30 years primarily in the areas of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Trusts, Probate, Estate Planning, Real Estate and Small Business Law. He has taught Real Estate Fundamentals at Washburn University. In law school he marketed real estate as a real estate broker.
He is a lecturer regularly presenting seminars to lawyers, churches, civic and other professional groups on Estate Planning, Probate, Real Estate and Trusts.
Kirk belongs to various attorney organizations including the Kansas Bar Association, (Probate and Real Estate Sections), Topeka Bar Association, Northeast Kansas Estate Planning Roundtable, Topeka Probate Bar and Christian Legal Society. He has served as an officer in various community organizations including Shawnee County Community Action, Save the Historic Jayhawk Theater, Church Board, Boy Scouts, School Board, and Christian Neighbor Center (an outreach to the disadvantaged).
His wife of 30 years , Karin, is his legal secretary. Robert Stockton, a fellow attorney, assists in the office.

Malissa L. Walden is a native Kansan with an international perspective. After years of living abroad, she returned to pursue her life-long dream of helping others through the practice of law. She has dedicated her career to public service and fully understands the needs of her clients. Ms. Waldenâs main areas of practice include Bankruptcy, Estate Planning, and Domestic.

Not only was Ms. Walden the first attorney at her firm to practice under the new Bankruptcy Code; she also assisted attorneys across the state to become Electronic Case Filing compliant. Due to her experience in Bankruptcy, she is aware that it is not the best option for every client. Because of this, she has a history of advising clients on Bankruptcy alternatives, and negotiating settlements with Collection and Credit Card Companies. She has helped to guide clients through the stressful actions necessary to deal with creditors. Ms. Walden knows and can explain clearly exactly what rights her clients have and how to respond to creditorsâ unwanted calls.

As the previous Elder Law Project Manager for a statewide non-profit, she has handled all stages of Estate Planning, appeared at Social Security Disability Appeal Hearings, advised clients regarding Medicaid/Division of Assets, Medicare, and Health-related collection. She has met with clients and given presentations throughout the state regarding these issues.

Ms. Walden has a history of quality representation. She has helped many families through, what can be very difficult and emotional situations, such as an Annulment, Divorce, Paternity Action, Visitation, Custody, Child Support, Guardianship, Conservatorship, Abuse proceeding, or Name Change. While no one wants to deal with these types of issues, it is easier when you have the support of a knowledgeable Attorney by your side.

Jeff has been with Logan Logan & Watson, L.C. since 1995, working as a clerk for the firm while still in law school. He has since developed a practice that is focused primarily in the areas of defense of health care providers in medical malpractice actions and the defense of long-term care facilities in nursing home negligence actions. Jeff also has experience in other areas of litigation that have been as far ranging as matters involving allegations of misconduct against a mental health therapist to the alleged negligence of a ringside physician in an amateur boxing competition.

Jeff has successfully tried cases to juries in both Kansas and Missouri. Additionally, Jeff successfully prosecuted and tried numerous matters while an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Prairie Village, Kansas from 1996 through 2001.
