Sometimes the inventor has conceived of the invention only in his or her thoughts. Sometimes, a prototype exists, or it may be in production. Please be aware that you do not need a prototype to file a patent application. Also, an inventor can not file a patent application if the invention has been on sale, or in public use for more than one year.

Robert worked as a design engineer for two years before entering law

school. His engineering experience, coupled with his post graduate education in materials science engineering, provide him with a firm grasp on the technological concepts which an inventor may put forth.

Robert received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, his J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida, and his L.L.M. in Intellectual Property Law, with honors, from The John Mashall Law School. While at Florida Law, Robert served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Technology Law & Policy, Vice Chair of the Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Board, and President of the Florida Intellectual Property Law Association.

Robert is the vice chair of the intellectual property committee of the Florida Bar Business Law Section. He is the past chair of the section's computer law committee. An avid Gator, he serves on the executive counsel of the University of Florida Law Alumni Counsel. Recently, he was selected as one of the "40 under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of Miami-Dade"
