Gene Takagi is a San Francisco–based attorney whose practice focuses on corporate and tax issues affecting nonprofit organizations. He is author and publisher of the Nonprofit Law Blog, and his articles have been published by the American Law Institute-American Bar Association and Taxation of Exempts. Gene is also a frequent speaker on legal issues affecting nonprofits for organizations like the Bar Association of San Francisco, American Bar Association, Western Museums Association, CompassPoint, the Foundation Center, and the California Association of Nonprofits. Prior to opening his independent office, Gene practiced in the corporate group of the AmLaw 100 firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP, during which time he was awarded Outstanding Barrister of the Year from the Bar Association of San Francisco. Gene holds a law degree from UCLA, and a graduate degree in nonprofit administration from USF.
