Ashley E. Philen
Attorney and Counselor at Law
I earned my B.S. degree from Louisiana State University in 2001 and went on to receive my juris doctorate from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge in 2007. During my time in law school, I was honored to be a member of the Law Review and graduated magna cum laude. Additionally, I served as Marshal and was later elected as Justice (President) of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International Tureaud Chapter, and was selected as a member of law review.
In 2007, I was admitted to the Louisiana Bar and began my legal career working on the historic case, Robinson v. U.S. This lawsuit was initiated by the citizens of New Orleans against the United States Army Corps of Engineers for damages caused by the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet during Hurricane Katrina. By 2009, I had started my own practice with a focus on environmental law, dedicating my efforts to advocate for Louisiana, its citizens, and its environment.
In 2010, through a joint venture with Simien & Simien, LLC, I took on the role of Of Counsel at Veron, Bice, Palermo & Wilson in Lake Charles. There, I continued my work representing landowners in both state and federal courts, whose properties had been adversely affected by the operations of oil, gas, and pipeline companies.
By 2012, I was involved in another significant legal battle, Southeastern Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East v. Tennessee Gas Pipeline, et al. Filed in federal court, this lawsuit claims that the actions of over 90 defendants have compromised the integrity of Louisiana’s coastal lands. Their activities related to loss of wetlands from hundreds of wells and pipelines that increase the risk of storm surge and flooding during hurricanes in the region.
I am licensed in Louisiana and admitted to practice in state and federal court. In addition to the district courts throughout the state, I am admitted to practice in the Eastern District, Western District, Middle District, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in Louisiana.
