Prior to joining the firm, Carolyn helped start the Real Justice Program for Fauquier County, Virginia through the Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center. This program used innovative techniques to offer first offending youth the opportunity to accept accountability for the consequences of their actions and provide victims with a substantive voice in sentencing alternatives. She also worked in conjunction with the Peacemakers Ministry, an organization dedicated to resolving disputes through conciliatory avenues such as conflict coaching, mediation and arbitration. She developed, taught and co-authored a text book and teacher's guide for On Trial, a law related educational curriculum for high school students which includes the participation of the students in a mock trial held before a sitting Judge in an actual courtroom. Further, she served as a lobbyist and Media Spokesperson, providing legislative policy analysis and extensive research on the Washington State Surrogacy Bill.
