Cheryl Watson Smith
Cheryl Watson Smith JD, has been in the private practice of law in Roanoke, Virginia since 1988 and practices in the area of family law, including complex property matters. Through the Collaborative Divorce Process, mediation, and negotiated settlements, she assists families in resolving disputes without going to court.
Ms. Smith is passionate about the Collaborative Divorce Process as an alternative to court battles for families in conflict. She is committed to expanding the use of the Collaborative Divorce Process by developing her own Collaborative Practice skills and training other professionals in the Collaborative Process. Ms. Smith is on the faculty of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute and is a mediator, certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia since 1995.
Ms. Smith is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a founding member of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals, the Collaborative Divorce Professionals of Roanoke and the Southwest Virginia Collaborative Divorce Professionals.
She currently serves as Member Services Committee Chair of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals. She previously served on the Interim Executive Committee and Council of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals, on the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section Board of Governors and on the Virginia Bar Association Domestic Relations Section Council and as President of the Roanoke Valley Family Law Bar Association. She is a presenter at Collaborative Practice, Family Law, and Mediation programs. Ms. Smith has been selected as a Virginia Super Lawyer, by Super Lawyers in the areas of Collaborative Law or Alternate Dispute Resolution, 2007-2018.
