I FIGHT FOR THE WIN!
I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, living there until I was 21 years old, when I moved to New Orleans for law school.
I have vivid memories of being a child and arguing with my father – who is a lawyer – about something, and after I had made my point, he would stare at me silently, then look down, shake his head, and say “gosh you’d be a good lawyer.” And because of that, I just always knew I was going to go to law school. I tried to stray from that path a few times – my very large family loves to cook and I seriously considered culinary school; and I love art and design and seriously considered interior design school. But I always ended up landing right back on the path to a legal career.
As I went through law school, and law clinic, and then the early parts of my legal career representing abused and neglected children, I realized the practice of law is not so much about arguing, but about giving a voice to people who don’t have one, or who don’t know how to speak up for themselves and get themselves the help they need. I now get to do that at Scott Vicknair Law for people who have been victims of accidents and those who have experienced damage to their homes due to storms and other losses.
It amuses me to think back to what I thought my career would look like. I always anticipated I would be a defense attorney because it’s what my dad did, and I have a lot of respect for him and his legal accomplishments and his flawless work ethic. It’s just always what I saw myself doing. But I could not be more satisfied with where my legal career has ended up. There’s a lot of gratification in this area of law, especially when a client says “thank you” because you’ve helped them overcome a hurdle in their life that they thought would break them.
This firm is full of people from all over the state, and we all love Louisiana and love being able to represent those members of our state who need a strong and passionate voice.
