Almost every adult needs an estate plan: will, powers of attorney, and sometimes, a trust. When someone dies, a close relative usually needs to open an estate in order to settle the deceased's affairs and make distributions to the heirs. Please call me if I might help you, and if I cannot, I'll try to find someone who can.

Rates, Retainers and Additional Information
Because every situation is different, standardizing fees is very hard unless it is a high-volume practice (e.g., title searches). Just as you would not select a surgeon based upon price alone, your search for a lawyer involves asking good questions. For instance: 1. What cases or matters have you handled that are similar to mine, what did you decide to do, and what were the results? The answer to this question should tell you if you were in the right lawyer’s office. 2. May I contact some of your clients or former clients? The answer to this question will tell you whether his clients love, like, or dislike him. 3. What is your preferred way to keep in touch with me, and how fast could you or a member of your staff get back to me? Poor communication is the most common complaint by clients of the legal profession. Feel free to call and ask me these questions.

Legal Answers
- Q. How to pursue pardon for hindering prosecution in Alabama?
- A: This is a difficult question, but here is a start from the FAQs at the website of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles:
"Alabama law allows convicted persons to apply for a pardon with or without remission, subject to the procedures specified by law. These procedures give the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles the discretionary authority to grant or deny pardon and remission applications. To be considered for a pardon or remission, an applicant must have either completed his or her sentence or have successfully served at least three (3) years on parole for the sentence for which the applicant seeks a pardon."
Persistence is the key. Lots of people ask for pardons, few ... Read More
- Q. Can someone legally sell a mobile home and belongings without owner's consent in Alabama?
- A: The lawyerly answer is: "It depends." Read the various contracts related to the mobile home, which I presume your mother owned outright, and the leasing of the lot, which she did not own. if she fell behind on her rent of the lot, the terms of eviction and removal of her mobile home should be written in the lease. There are Alabama statutes dealing with such removals, as well as lots of case law. If the landlord follows the rules, the courts cannot intervene. If the removal and sale violated Alabama law, then she could sue the lot owner for damages of several kinds. Courts don't like landlords violating Alabama law to evict tenants, especially widows. Gather the documents, ... Read More
- Q. How can a judge approve a sale with realtor violations in partition action?
- A: In property disputes, judges often appoint a realtor to sell the property and divide the proceeds at closing. In your case, you have every right to give notice to the court, in a formal pleading, that the listing agreement and other sales protocols were violated. Usually, the judge must approve such a sale, unless there is mutual consent among the parties. It is possible the judge is not aware of the screw up, or unaware of the extent of it. In your pleading you need to focus on what the protocols and requirements are for listing agreements, the specifics of how they were violated, and a monetary estimate of your losses. Griping will get you nowhere; you need to give formal notice to the ... Read More
