- A: Posting your question on the internet with detailed facts and expecting a legal analysis response, again all over the public internet, is not advisable. I suggest that you contact an adoption lawyer to get answers to your questions in private.
- Q. I have had custody of my godson since he was born I am wondering if God parents count as relative adoption?
- A: In many jurisdictions, the term "godparent" does not have a legal significance in the same way it does in religious or cultural contexts. Unlike legal guardians or custodians, godparents typically do not have a legally binding relationship with a child under state law. This is my understanding for Utah as well.

- A: As to your question in general, it comes down to what you want to do.
1. Temporary custody: This allows you to have custody of the child for a limited period, typically up to 6 months. However, it can be revoked at any time by the birth parents. Drafting this document requires meeting certain requirements.
2. Guardianship: This provides a legal relationship where a person (the guardian) is granted custody and control of the child. However, like temporary custody, the birth parents can file a motion to dismiss it at any time.
