John Patrick Colan
The Buckeye Law Group, Inc.
John Colan has a profound appreciation for the concepts of fairness and equity. His passion for ethics and doing right by clients helps him effectively advocate for plaintiffs who have been wronged by another person or business’s actions. (John even taught Ethics and Legal Issues at a technical college from 2014 to 2016.)
One of his early positions was in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office, where he aggressively sought to hold criminals accountable for the suffering they inflicted on their victims (he maintained a 99.8 percent conviction rate on more than 1,000 crimes as an Assistant Prosecutor in the General Felony Unit). He also gained extensive first-chair trial experience in the Major Trial Unit, where he took over 100 cases to trial with a conviction rate of 97 percent.
John knows how life-changing being the victim of criminal, reckless or negligent behavior can be for Ohio residents because he’s seen the effects up close in these trials. After his work in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, he went on to advocate for people who had legitimate grievances against large corporations, including fighting for clients who were defrauded by powerful companies.
John has proven time and again that he’s not intimidated by the courtroom or the deep pockets of large corporate interests, including insurance companies seeking to minimize claim payments to injured people.
John earned a BA in Philosophy from John Carroll University before attending Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2005. He currently lives with his wife and son on the West Side of Cleveland.
