Kevin E. Childress received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Austin Peay State University in 1991 and received his law degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1994. While in law school he was selected to be a member of the moot court debate team.
Attorney Childress began his legal career as a Public Defender. He entered private practice in 1997 as a general practitioner with the late J.C. McLin. Upon McLin being appointed as a Judge in 2000, Attorney Childress established his own practice. However, Attorney Childress continued to work with Judge McLin on community development issues which included the establishment of a non-profit organization to assist ex-felons obtain employment and regain their citizenship rights, including the right to vote.
For well over 15 years Attorney Childress’ practice has focused primarily on probate matters involving estate and trust administration, conservatorships, guardianships, as well as litigation in those areas. His practice also includes estate planning which involves the drafting of wills, trusts and other related documents. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Elder Counsel, as well as the Memphis, Tennessee, and National Bar Associations.
Attorney Childress is outside counsel for a major local hospital and also represents several local and out-of-state law firms on probate-related matters. He frequently serves as Guardian ad Litem, Attorney ad Litem and Personal Representative for Estates in matters before the Probate Courts. He also sits as a Substitute Judge in the Shelby County Probate Courts and is a speaker or panelist at various probate-related events. He also served on the committee responsible for the review and redrafting of the Shelby County Probate Court Local Rules.
