MacKenzie Alexander Dunham
Access Justice Houston
MacKenzie is an experienced litigator who believes that everyone should have access to affordable legal help during the most important moments of their lives. MacKenzie is passionate about serving those who don't have access to an affordable attorney: those in the middle, who are work hard everyday but could be easily crippled by a legal setback. Prior to founding Access Justice Houston MacKenzie worked at a Houston consumer law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of his clients from deceptive trade practices and scams.
MacKenzie went to law school at the University of Houston Law Center where he focused on litigation in the Blakely Advocacy Institution. MacKenzie was an active part of UHLC's Mock Trial team, Moot Court team, and the Advocates. In the Spring of 2017 MacKenzie was one of four students who were chosen to help train the United States Court Guards investigators through a trial demonstration. MacKenzie was recognized for his achievements in trial advocacy by the Houston Bar Association Litigation Section in April of 2017. For his effective use of storytelling and trial strategy, MacKenzie was awarded the 2017 Jim Perdue Sr. Trial Advocacy Award.

- I created Access Justice Houston with my co-founder Douglas Evans to give truly affordable and efficient legal representation to those left behind by the legal system. While the poorest of the poor can get legal representation from a legal aid provider, there's never enough funding to provide legal representation to everyone who needs it. At AJH we're trying to bridge this access to justice gap by providing a sliding scale fee structure which tailors what a client has to pay to what they can afford. We're working in those areas were needed the most: family Law, criminal defense, immigration, and consumer law. At AJH we've lowered our overhead and increased our efficiency in the practice law so that we're able to serve as counselors to our clients in this area of need at a rate that won't bankrupt them.

- Litigation starts with drafting legal documents, whether it's drafting petitions, discovery requests, discovery responses, motions, pre-trial motions and orders for filing I have extensive experience drafting legal documents that are concise and written in a way that our clients can understand. During litigation there will always be a need for fast and efficient research. Whether it's Lexis nexis, westlaw or newer services like Ravel and casetext I have used them all to find whatever information our clients case requires in record times. In investigating our clients cases I have extensive experience finding opposing parties assets, deciphering confusing corporate structures, or finding witnesses. All of which translates to creating a tailored litigation and strategy for our clients cases. I work hand in hand with clients to understand their case from intake through the end of litigation. This includes working with clients in investigating their claim, making document requests, and giving prompt case updates. After successfully litigating a client's case, I give our clients all the post-judgment collection options available to collect what's owed to them. Whether it requires receivership, a writ of execution, or garnishment, I tailor each collection strategy with our clients goal to collect what's owed to them in a just and efficient manner.
