Marie Hylan Hopper
Marie Hopper is a Chatham County native. She earned her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 and holds her undergraduate in History from Earlham College. She is a Certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Board of Dispute Resolution, a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the 18th Judicial District Bar, the Chatham County Bar Association, and the Family Law and Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. She served as President of the 18th Judicial District Bar in the 2019-2020 fiscal year, and as Vice-President the term before that. Marie is admitted to practice before all state courts in North Carolina, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
From estate planning and administration, to matters revolving around marriage, divorce, and the welfare of children, Marie is deeply committed to supporting the people in her hometown community through the services they need most. In addition to beginning her career as a Legal Aid lawyer championing Chatham’s most vulnerable citizens, Marie has dedicated her time and expertise to serving on the Boards of Directors of The Center for Cooperative Parenting, Inc., Carolina Tiger Rescue, Inc., George Moses Horton Middle School PTSA, and as a Trustee for Chapel Hill Friends Meeting. In recognition of her outstanding volunteerism and community service, Marie received the 2022 Due Energy Citizenship and Service Award from Chatham County Chamber of Commerce.
