Matthew Douglas Powell
A winning trial record
Matt Powell has been protecting injured victims and their families in the Tampa Bay area for over 30 years.
He is dual Board Certified as a Civil Trial Lawyer by The Florida Bar and National Board of Trial Advocacy.
At his firm MattLaw, he handles cases involving car crashes, trucking crashes, birth injuries, medical malpractice, wrongful death, bicycle crashes, negligent security, products liability, and many other types of injury cases.
Matt first practiced law with a well-known defense firm in Tallahassee that represented over 20 insurance companies, negligent drivers and doctors.
During that time, Matt learned the techniques insurance companies use to decrease the amount of money they pay injured or dead victims in negligence or accident cases.
Shortly thereafter, Matt decided to stop helping insurance companies and opened up his own law firm in Tampa to represent injured victims and their families.
Matt has been practicing personal injury law in the historic Hutchinson House landmark building in Hyde Park since 1989.

- Q. Would like to know the steps to get compensation for Food Poisoning.
- A: As the plaintiffs, you will have the burden of proof to prove the food you purchased caused the poisoning you and your family suffered. The important evidence you will need are: Proof you purchased the bad food from the Defendant. Proof that the food was unhealthy, which may be proved by the doctors who examined your family, did tests, and have reached opinions within a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the food was the cause of everyone's illness.
Additional evidence might include saving the unused food. Photographs of the mold you discovered, and possibly lab testing of the remaining food.
If the doctors took a stool sample, and it tested positive for some pathogen, you ... Read More
