When New York passed the Marriage Equality Act in 2011, Rachel was inspired to open her own law practice, recognizing an opportunity to help the LGBT community in ways that had not yet been possible. Law Office of Rachel Einbund (LORE) specializes in green card applications based on marriage and family petitions. Rachel is a strong female business owner who does great humanitarian work. She mentors law students and holds free workshops and information sessions. A graduate of NYU and New York Law School, Rachel celebrates the melting pot mentality employed by the city, and revels in working with clientele from all corners of the globe. Her firm takes on political asylum cases, helping clients and their families stay in this country for fear of persecution in their home countries. She helps victims of domestic violence who want to leave their spouses, but not leave the country. She knows the value of religious, political, and personal freedom, as well as the need for freedom of sexual expression and gender identity.

- Q. waiting for green card to be renewed. had biometrics appt already. My card is expired. Can still travel to Europe?
- A: Hi,
It is always risky to travel outside the country with expired documents - If it is an emergency, I would suggest going to your local USCIS Office to do an in-person request for Emergency Travel Documents, or get a stamp in your passport showing your currently valid status. Or, if you decide that you want to just risk it, definitely take along a copy of your I-797C Receipt Notice showing that you filed for the I-90, and hopefully the CBP Officer at the airport will let you pass. - Q. If I am a green card holder and was outside the country for almost three years what should I do
- A: Hi,
Most likely, your Green Card has already been deemed "abandoned" by USCIS. However, there may be hope if you contact the U.S. Embassy in the country where you are, and explain the circumstances why you had to spend so much time outside U.S. (family, business, etc), then you can request permission to re-enter.
