I grew up in Southwest Missouri and was awarded the President’s Scholarship from Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University) as well as a Bright Flight Scholarship. I graduated MSU cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. I was awarded the Lincoln-Harno Scholarship for the University of Illinois, College of Law. I wrote onto Law Review and served as an editor for that publication. I graduated from U of I, College of Law, cum laude.
My entire practice has been spent in private practice and I owned and operated my own firm, Law Offices of Sara M. Mayo Vig, until my husband, William Vig, and I incorporated our individual practices in July 2017. I have focused my practice on criminal defense work and appeals as much as possible. I have represented clients on drug charges, DUIs, violent crimes, sex crimes, traffic cases, and misdemeanors in Sangamon County and throughout central Illinois. In addition to my state court work, I have been a CJA attorney for the United States District Court of the Central District of Illinois, Springfield Division since in or around 2010. I have tried criminal cases to jury in both State and Federal court. I have also served as a part-time public defender in Sangamon County from January 2012 until December 2014 while operating my private practice.
It is my goal to make sure that every client we serve is treated as an individual and that each case is given the time and attention it deserves. I do not believe “one size fits all” solutions are always effective as in my experience each client has separate needs and concerns that should be addressed as we work toward resolving his/her case. I look for ways to address those special and individual needs in every case in order that the solution we arrive at for any particular client is one that can help them move forward personally and professionally.
