Shirin Buckman
Eviction Attorney (both landlord and tenant side)
Practicing law is my second career. I began my advocacy career in 2005 working at the City of Los Angeles, first as a City Council Aide, then as a civil rights Policy Analyst. My work as a City Council Aide included assisting constituents with housing issues. This provided me with the foundation of knowledge that I currently apply to my Eviction practice.
However, my passion has always been civil rights, which certainly pertains to housing rights, both on the landlord and tenant side. A landlord's right as a property owner (and the right to make decisions as such) is as important as a tenant's right to safe, legal, and comfortable housing.
My work as a civil rights Policy Analyst included ensuring that law enforcement applied unbiased practices, assisting parolees with attaining sustainable employment, contract management, and finally, as Executive Director at the City's Commission on the Status of Women, where my work included partnering with LAPD to combat human trafficking.
In 2017, began my legal career practicing civil rights law. However, during the COVID lockdown, and as a result of the novel eviction moratoria, I began taking unlawful detainer cases because housing, to me, became a new civil rights issue. I now devote my entire practice to evictions, both on the landlord and tenant side. Understanding arguments and "tricks" on both sides helps me better advocate for my clients because I know what's coming from the opponent, so it makes settlement more likely.
My goal is to get you in and out of this "jam"--whether you are a tenant or want to evict an irresponsible tenant--as quickly as possible. I am not the type of attorney who lengthens any process for financial gain. I charge $375 hourly instead of an exorbitant flat fee to save you money because many times, your issue can be solved quickly and without need to resort to an expensive trial. Although located in Indio, I accept cases everywhere in Southern California.
