I am the oldest of 10 children, and we traveled from state to state following my father’s military career. When I was about 12, my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I responded with “I want to be a writer and a lawyer.” I really did not know what either was, but it turned out to be true.
My mother’s father passed away when I was 12. We were all mystified, but my mother was grief-stricken. I was able to see at a young age that if the BUSINESS of aging and passing away isn't handled before it's important.... the cost maybe the loss of being there emotionally for each other.
As part of that transplanted military family, I moved to Texas pre-high school in the 1960’s, when Texas was challenged with a fundamental pre-NASA western cultural perspective. Nothing remains the same, and Texas has changed since then, more than I have.
And my family ended up spread to the winds, like so many birds before a hunting party, but one thing was for certain: there is less survivor turmoil, and the family unit will stay better connected in order to better facilitate the emotional side of loss/grief, such as our mother had to deal with.
It was with that in mind that I fell into the promise of Estate planning.
First it was with affordable estate planning. I found common cause with a survivor from the 1970's for affordable legal representation, Texas Legal. With Texas Legal I started exploring estate planning for most people who could not afford it. Then I discovered that to succeed as a business in Estate Planning, a 3-D effort was needed to make my estate practice a success. That is why I am here today. I know it is possible to recognize and improve family dynamics with the structures of estate planning.
Mahoney Legal is a business that will endure, as will our families because of what we do together today.
