Biography

Since 1999 I have labored to establish divorce settlements that are firm but fair and parenting-time schedules that work. Relocating and long-distance parenting plans. I resolve high-conflict situations, protective orders, and deal with parental alienation. I also have litigated a number of high value cases in both Summit and Stark Counties.

My firm also has handled a great number of high value transactions involving mineral rights, land leases and easements with energy companies. We have done joint ventures, partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, commercial and industrial developments, condominium developments or conversions and office building sales and purchases. Likewise, I have drafted construction contracts, lease negotiation and preparations, loan workouts and foreclosures as well as sale and purchase contracts.

Notably, I am among a handful of Ohio Attorneys who practice special education law. My focus in this area is on the parents of special needs children. I aid them in ensuring that these children receive the free and appropriate public education (FAPE) that each child is guaranteed under state and federal law.

Legal Answers
Q. How can I present my custody situation in court after my separated husband prevented me from picking up our son?
A: It sounds like you really need to hire a domestic relations attorney i the city where your husband filed for divorce. While you have a right to represent yourself, I do not recommend it. This forum is for answering general questions. No attorney can teach you within a single answer each rule of evidence, the whole of child custody law and trial advocacy. This is what your question essentially demands.

Generally a parent can present these facts during cross examination (ex. "you would agree with me that you withheld our child from me on January 2, 2025, right?"). However, the nuances of what to do, how to introduce documents, how do counter his other likely answers are skills and that take knowledge that take years to acquire. Your best bet is to hire local counsel. ... Read More
Q. How can I ask for more alimony in Ohio after my divorce without incurring high legal fees?
A: If your separation agreement did not reserve the Court's jurisdiction to modify spousal support you cannot do so now. You should speak to your divorce lawyer and review the divorce agreement/decree and see whether jurisdiction to modify was reserved. If so you may file the motion to modify pro se or with the aid of a lawyer. Assuming that you do have the ability to modify the spousal support you need to calculate the difference between what you're currently getting in support and what you're likely to get if you are successful. That will tell you whether it's worthwhile to pay an attorney or risk doing a less than adequate job by filing your own motion.
Q. Overpayment issue with rental company & bank endorsement requirements in Ohio
A: Many more facts are needed to answer this question. When you refer to your ex, are you referring to an ex boyfriend or an ex husband? If it is an ex husband, is there a final divorce decree including a separation agreement, or is this a pending matter? When you say that your ex agreed to cover his share, was that agreement in writing?

If there is a final divorce, then the divorce decree and separation agreement probably has a clause within it which requires each of you to sign necessary paperwork and hold each other harmless. In which case your remedy would be to file a motion to enforce that agreement with the domestic relations court. If this is a matter where the parties were not married, then it is likely you would need to file a suit against your ex, requesting relief in the forms of reimbursement and specific performance of signing the check. Good luck. ... Read More
