Hugh’s experience as an attorney is well rounded. He has civil and criminal trial experience as the result of his career as a city attorney, a municipal prosecutor, an assistant county attorney, and an assistant district attorney where his duties included engaging in all types of litigation ranging from civil rights and employment lawsuits to tort and negligence claims.
In private practice, Hugh has represented individuals and businesses in claims involving the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, Age and Sex discrimination, Worker's Compensation Retaliation Cases, Unemployment Disputes and other employment law matters. In regards to small businesses, Hugh has experience drafting and implementing human resources policies and standard operating procedures as well as drafting and negotiating employment agreements, severance agreements, non-compete agreements, corporate formations, real estate transactions, and buy-sell agreements.
Hugh Coleman is an active member of the legal community as well. He is a Past President of the Denton County Bar Association and is a past President of the Denton County Young Lawyers Association. He was also instrumental in the creation of the highly acclaimed Denton County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (DCAP), which provides pro bono and low-cost mediation services to residents of Denton County.
Hugh is passionate about public service and served as the Denton County Commissioner for Precinct #1 from 2009 to 2020. He is also active in the Denton Community and you will frequently find him volunteering for local organizations and at local events as a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
