James Gary Sullivan
Criminal Defense with focus on family violence, violent crimes, and juvenile.
Attorney James G. Sullivan has practiced criminal and juvenile defense law since 1994, and he is passionate about defending clients from governmental prosecution. Sullivan primarily focuses on family violence, violent crime, and juvenile defense.
Sullivan frequently sets cases for a jury trial and forces the State to dismiss it or try to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. Sullivan has earned not guilty verdicts in jury trials on serious crimes and delinquencies, including assault of a family member, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, deadly conduct, negligent homicide, burglary, assault of a public servant.
Sullivan also frequently persuades the grand jury to dismiss (no bill) clients' felony criminal charges (over 60 no bills just since 2008). When this occurs, the client may be able to seek an immediate expunction. Sullivan has forced the State to dismiss 100s of criminal and juvenile cases.
Sullivan defends almost all criminal and juvenile misdemeanor and felony cases, including assault family violence, theft, shoplifting, fraud, hit and run, drug possession and delivery, robbery, burglary and homicide. Sullivan has been certified as an expert by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the area of Juvenile Law since 2003. For Sullivan, the practice of defense law is a calling.
Sullivan also graduated from Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College (TLC), the most selective and prestigious trial advocacy program in America. The TLC teaches advanced trial techniques to defense attorneys.
In 1990, Sullivan graduated with honors from Baylor University where he studied Journalism, Latin American Studies, Asian Studies and Spanish. He then lived and studied in Mexico City prior to entering the South Texas College of Law in 1991.
Sullivan also earned his Eagle Scout award in 1982. He has been married to his wife Araceli for over 30 years. They have 2 children and worship in a local Catholic church.
