Jean Brown
Schott, Bublitz & Engel, s.c.I have over 25 years of experience representing accident victims. I have extensive trial, settlement and appellate experience in a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death cases, including complex and multi-district litigation. I was recognized as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer in 2011 in the area of Personal Injury Plaintiff: General, as published in Milwaukee Magazine, was recognized as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” in Wisconsin for Civil Plaintiff’s work by the National Trial Lawyers Association in 2013, and I have now achieved the highest level ranking of “Superb” by Avvo’s lawyer rating service. I graduated cum laude from Marquette University Law School in 1989. In addition to graduating in the top ten percent of my class, I received a number of academic awards and participated on the law school’s intramural and national moot court teams. I also graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986 where I studied Behavioral Science and Law and Criminal Justice. I was admitted to practice in Wisconsin State and Federal District Courts, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. I am a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, The National Trial Lawyers Association, the Waukesha County Bar Association, the Wisconsin Association for Justice (formerly Wisconsin Association of Trial Lawyers), and I am a past board member of WATL and its Constitutional Challenge Committee, which was very active in fighting against legislative tort reform adversely affecting personal injury victim’s rights. My personal time is devoted to family life on a small hobby farm where I live with my husband and their two children.

- Q. I was injured during a hike but didn't realize I was on private property at the time.
- A: The private owner of the land will likely claim that you were a trespasser on the property. With limited exceptions, see Wis. Stat. Sec. 895.29 (3), most of which apply only to injured children, the owner of the property owes no duty of care to a trespasser.
