Legal Answers
Q. What I have to do to get my settlement money?
A: In addition to Attorney Beckert's comment you may want to check with the probate court which has jurisdiction over the town where you lived to see if such an estate was opened on your behalf and, if so, follow up with that court to determine the status. You can also check the Superior Court website to see if such an action was filed on your behalf in Superior Court. https://civilinquiry.jud.ct.gov/PartySearch.aspx
Q. Who is allowed to file a wrongful death claim in Connecticut, or can anyone who knows the deceased person file?
A: A person who knows the deceased does not have the legal authority to file a wrongful death claim. An estate must be opened for the deceased and the administrator of the estate generally has the authority to then file such a claim.
Q. Is it possible to file a civil lawsuits involving two defendants related to one case and have it all settled within 6 mo
A: Your questions raises more questions. Yes, it's possible to settle a case within 6 months. Whether you should do so depends on the nature of your injuries, the liability of the involved drivers, and the willingness of the insurance company to resolve the matter. If you have to file suit in CT it is unlikely that the case will be tried within 6 months. You may contact me to discuss further if you wish.
