Kelly Lina Rooth
Prior to beginning her appellate practice, Kelly L. Rooth was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Paul H. Roney, Circuit Court Judge of the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Ms. Rooth was a commercial litigation associate at Holland & Knight LLP and Trenam Kemker P.A. where she practiced civil litigation, including business torts, contracts, unfair trade practices, and creditors' rights. Ms. Rooth is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Ms. Rooth graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Florida in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts, where she completed both the USF Honors Program and Political Science Honors Programs with a 4.00 G.P.A. She attended Stetson University College of Law on a full scholarship and graduated magna cum laude with her law degree in 2002.
While in law school, Ms. Rooth was an Articles & Symposia Editor for the Stetson Law Review, Research Assistant for Dean Emeritus and Professor of Law Bruce Jacob, Legal Writing Clinic Teaching Fellow, Student Bar Association Class Representative, and the Honorary Legal Fraternity Phi Delta Phi Clerk/Historian. She also completed the Federal Government Litigation Practicum at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida, Appellate Division and served as a Federal Judicial Intern for the Honorable Susan C. Bucklew of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Ms. Rooth has won first place in the Phelps Dunbar First-Year Appellate Advocacy Contest, the Victor O. Wehle Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, and the Outstanding New Associate and Outstanding Senior Associate Awards for her service on the Stetson Law Review.
In the community, Ms. Rooth serves on the Board of Directors for Your Place, Inc., an organization committed to operating a drop-in center for homeless and at-risk youth in her home town of south St. Petersburg. She is also a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, St. Petersburg Bar Association, and is a founding member and Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Tampa Bay.
