Prior to forming Monica D. DeRamus, LLC, in Canton, Ohio, Monica worked as an attorney in Cleveland, OH, where she assisted local businesses in business formation, contract drafting and contract review. She also worked as a solo practitioner where her main practice consisted of domestic relations law, juvenile law, contract drafting and contract review. Currently, she focuses her practice areas to estate planning, bankruptcy, and providing legal services to small business owners. Monica was employed full-time while pursuing a law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. She served as a member of the Black Law Student Association and student research assistant on the topic of babies born during prom who were subsequently abandoned. Monica received her undergraduate degree in marketing from Chancellor University.
Upon graduation from Cleveland-Marshall, she completed a summer law internship at Phillips Medical System, Cleveland, OH. Fueled by a growing concern for the large number of people being released from Ohio prisons who were facing the daily struggle of limited employment opportunities, she started a non-profit organization to assist Ohioans with criminal record expungement. She also participated in forums that were dedicated to expanding Ohio’s expungement law to allow greater opportunities for those who no longer present a risk to the public. She recently relocated her practice to Canton and spends her free time enjoying reading, writing, painting and other creative ways to make the world a better place.
