Biography

Saundra Gumerove has enjoyed a distinguished legal career that spans nearly 30 years, initially practicing in the areas of corporate law, banking, commercial finance, real estate, workouts, and creditors rights and more recently in the special needs arena. Her experience encompasses a wide spectrum of legal matters, both advisory and transactional, on behalf of domestic and foreign financial institutions, corporations and individuals. She has been published and quoted in trade journals and consumer publications, including American Banker, Newsday and Long Island Business News.

The birth of Saundra's first child changed everything. She defines herself as a lawyer, an advocate, and most importantly as the parent of a developmentally disabled, learning disabled and medically involved young adult. After realizing that many parents of children with disabilities were facing similar issues, she began providing them assistance and support -- both personally and professionally. Saundra focused her practice on assisting others gain vital services for their loved ones, including special education, guardianships, life planning, estate planning, and Special Needs Trusts. She created the special needs resource, Advokidsblog.com, to provide an active forum for these issues.

Saundra is devoted to the Long Island communities where she lives and practices. She contributes both time and talent to many good causes and matters of interest to her loved ones and business associates. She has been recognized numerous times for her community service and achievements and is a sought-after expert speaker on both special needs issues.

Most recently, Saundra was named a Trustee of Life's WORC Supplemental Pooled Trust. She received the Mets Spirit Award and EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award during Disability Awareness Night at Shea Stadium for her work on behalf of disabled Americans. She was voted Woman of the Year by the Town of Oyster Bay, elected VP of the Board of AHRC Nassau County, and was the proud recipient of the Long Island Works Coalition Workforce Builder Award for three years in a row. She is active in the Birchwood Civic Association, a Vice President of AHRC Nassau County, President of the Association for the Help of Retarded Citizens and the Treasurer of The Brookville School for Children. She is also an adjunct professor at St. Joseph's College, Patchogue, NY. She has also been active with the Jericho School Board, the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association, the Sturge Weber Foundation, and the New York State School Boards Association.

She earned a B.A. degree from the School of Government and Public Administration at American University, and a J.D. degree from Hofstra University Law School. For four years she worked for Senator Charles Goodell and North Carolina Congressman James Broyhill as a legislative assistant
and caseworker.

Saundra is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association and the Association of Special Needs Planners. She resides with her husband Jeff in Jericho, NY. They are the proud parents of three lovely daughters.
