Steve Coffey is the founding partner and chair of the Personal Injury and Criminal Defense practices at O'Connell and Aronowitz. With over thirty-five years of experience at the state and federal levels, he has established himself as one of upstate New York's most successful trial attorneys in both personal injury and criminal defense.
As a former Assistant District Attorney for Albany County and Chief Felony Prosecutor, Steve was the youngest Felony Bureau Chief to serve in Albany County. He also served as Special Prosecutor in Fulton and Albany Counties. This prosecutorial experience provides him unique insight when defending clients in criminal matters ranging from street crimes to complex white-collar cases.
Steve's commitment to justice began in 1975 when he witnessed government overreach against innocent individuals. In personal injury cases, Steve has secured numerous million-dollar verdicts and settlements. His most notable achievement includes a $43 million verdict for a brain-injured woman whose case had been rejected by other attorneys. He also obtained a verdict exceeding $20 million in a complex product liability case involving a child's brain injury. Steve has secured verdicts over $1 million in ten cases and countless seven-figure settlements.
Steve's expertise extends beyond the courtroom through his extensive appellate practice and media commentary on high-profile criminal cases for local television and radio stations. He frequently lectures and writes on civil and criminal trial practice.
Active in community service, Steve supports charitable organizations serving disabled individuals, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Living Resources, and The Miracle League.
