Timothy Smith graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Pre-Law. He then earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in downtown Detroit. During law school, Tim clerked for a metropolitan Detroit-based insurance defense firm. He was also fortunate to complete a federal judicial externship with the Honorable Bernard A. Friedman in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Prior to joining the Mike Morse Law Firm in 2022, Tim was a successful litigator with more than 25 years of experience in first-chair insurance defense and in-house claims management roles with local law firms and corporate entities. He has also held management roles with a Midwest-based litigation support firm and an international forensic engineering and technical consulting firm providing expert witness services.
Tim is an avid golfer and Detroit sports fan, particularly his Michigan State Spartans. He has personally attended over 10 NCAA men’s basketball Final Fours with his dad and friends, including in 2000 when his Spartans cut down the nets in Indianapolis. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter who he has coached in both youth soccer and basketball throughout elementary and middle school. Tim and his family enjoy traveling together, including multiple trips to Europe where they have visited England, Scotland, Italy and Poland thus far. One of Tim’s bucket-list items is to see U2 in concert in the band’s native Ireland.
