Biography

Originally a teacher, W. Jay Brown became a lawyer in 1998 and has been in practice in the Great Lakes Bay Region ever since. Mr. Brown graduated first in his law school class and joined Midland’s largest law firm as a litigation associate. While with the firm, Mr. Brown embarked on his litigation career and was soon promoted to member of the firm. In 2009, W. Jay Brown left the law firm to start his own practice based on his vision for the practice of law – where technology and innovation are leveraged to provide clients superior customer and legal services. Over time, Mr. Brown’s law practice evolved. Originally, his practice was exclusively litigation of business, commercial, real estate and construction law disputes. However, as Mr. Brown’s satisfied litigation clients returned for counsel on other matters, it was natural that Mr. Brown’s practice evolved to one providing general counsel in the areas of business, real estate, commercial and construction law in addition to litigation. Mr. Brown approaches his clients as partners in success. He is optimistic by nature and believes that in most instances, where there is a will there is a way. Mr. Brown is fond of asking his clients “what do you want the result to be?” Once a desired outcome is identified, Mr. Brown helps clients plan the best course of action to take to achieve the client’s objective. On the personal side, W. Jay Brown has been married for over 35 years and he and his wife Lori have two daughters. In his spare time, Mr. Brown enjoys pickleball, biking, golf, hiking and spending time in Leelanau County.
