- Q. How long does it typically take to come to close on a personal injury case.
- A: Personal injury cases do take some time. I tell my clients that we like to get cases resolved, if possible, within 12 months. Some settle sooner than that and some take a long time. For example, if the insurance company does not offer a reasonable settlement, we file a lawsuit for our client and that process can take years.
Having said that, you should have a discussion with your current lawyer and see what he/she thinks about your medical treatment and how much longer you may need treatment. This decision ultimately is up to you.
- Q. I was hurt in a bus accident. Are there any steps I should take before filing a lawsuit?
- A: Yes there are many steps you should take before you file a lawsuit. You need to get to a doctor. You may need physical therapy and/or an MRI depending on your injuries. You should put the bus company on notice that you were hurt. You may also try to settle your case with the insurance company for the bus company prior to filing a lawsuit.
- Q. If my daughter was injured and received settlement money after a car accident, does that money have to go into a trust
- A: It depends on how old she is and how much money she received.
