Scott D. Smith was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Mr. Smith is an experienced trial lawyer who has taken favorable verdicts for clients on both sides of the docket. He has experience in all phases of litigation in both state and federal courts, including resolving a broad variety of business and commercial disputes as well as FINRA arbitration proceedings and securities litigation. Mr. Smith has defended large and small public and private companies, their directors, officers, employees, and affiliates on a broad spectrum of securities enforcement actions, including regulatory and compliance matters. He has also successfully argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the New York State Appellate Divisions. Mr. Smith has represented a broad spectrum of clients, both as plaintiffs and defendants, in cases involving breach of contract, business torts, fraud, tortious interference with contract, theft of trade secrets, business disparagement, unfair competition, shareholder disputes, personal injury, real estate, employment, and probate matters. In addition to complex commercial and general civil litigation, Mr. Smith’s practice is also concentrated on matters related to legal ethics and professional responsibility, including malpractice and negligence actions, conflicts of interest, as well as addressing a broad range of risk management issues that law firms face in today’s ever changing market. Mr. Smith joined Henneman Rau LLP in January 2017.
