Shiven Patel is an Associate in Tully Rinckey PLLC’s Washington, DC office, where he focuses his practice on representing federal and private sector employees.
Prior to joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, Shiven worked as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security where he counseled and advised aggrieved agency employees on their rights when faced with discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. His duties included assisting aggrieved employees with the filing of informal and formal complaints of discrimination, reviewing Reports of Investigation for legal sufficiency, and preparing case files on behalf of the agency in preparation for litigation before an Administrative Judge.
Previously, Shiven worked with the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) where he was responsible for advocating for the civil rights of people with disabilities in employment, education, and unwanted and unlawful institutionalizations. He also represented NDRN, and the nation’s disability community, on Capitol Hill on various issues impacting the disability community, such as inaccessible transportation, education, and the institutionalization of people with disabilities.
Shiven also worked with American Airlines in the Government and Regulatory Affairs office where he attended hearings and meetings on Capitol Hill in order to alert the airline’s leadership on key policy and regulatory issues that affected the daily operations of the airline.
Additionally, Shiven served with the Harris County Attorney’s Office in Houston, Texas where he assisted in the litigation of public nuisance lawsuits to protect the citizens of the State of Texas from habitual criminal activity such as illegal gambling, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
